When did Washington last win a national championship?
It’s been more than 30 years since Washington football has been able to call itself a national champion.
With the Huskies contending for this year’s College Football Playoff national championship against Michigan, the school is trying to climb to the top of the sport for the first time since 1991 under coach Don James.
Fascinatingly, it was Michigan who Washington toppled in the Rose Bowl that season to win a national championship. Washington legend Steve Emtman played for that undefeated Huskies team.
The school claims two national titles in its history: 1991 and 1960.
A win on Monday night would give Washington its third-ever national title and its second coming over Michigan.
