Tottenham fans pay tribute to ‘favourite player’ Erik Lamela after big career news

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left emotional after learning that former fan favourite Erik Lamela has called time on his playing career at the age of 33.

It has now been revealed that Tottenham Hotspur icon Erik Lamela has decided to hang up his boots after 16 years of playing professional football at the highest level.

The Argentine, 33, is now set to continue his footballing journey as a coach, with reports stating that Lamela is set to join Matias Almeyda’s coaching staff in Sevilla.

Of his 16 years as a professional footballer, Lamela spent the best part of seven years playing for Tottenham, where he played over 250 games, scoring 37 goals and assisting 46 during his spell in north London.

Tottenham fans react to Erik Lamela’s retirement news

Spurs fans, well aware of the winger’s decision to retire from professional football, have been quick to give their reactions, with many left emotional about the news.

One fan said: “Hero”, another added: “GOAT”, a third commented: “We will never forget you, Coco”.

Meanwhile, another fan stated Lamela would make a good manager, saying: “He has a great head on his shoulders. Hopefully, he will become a great coach.” One more commented: “My favourite player ever, happy retirement “

While another commented that he would love to see the Argentine at Tottenham once again: “Whether you liked him or not, the man was, is, Tottenham through and through, be nice to see him back at some point.”

Another fan opined: “Loved this guy. On some level we will always wonder what might have been, had he not had such rotten luck with injury. But still a player I will always think of very fondly.”

Another fan reminisced about Lamela’s passion when playing for Tottenham: “Would totally have had him back home again, I do not care. Reckless at times, but a player who really knew what it meant to play for the badge every minute he spent on the pitch “

While a final supporter added, “Loved Erik, always got full entertainment when he was on the pitch. Good luck in his new post.”

Lamela’s Spurs legacy will live on for years to come

Lamela remains fully COYS as one of his recent interactions with the official Tottenham Instagram account shows he still keeps a close eye on Tottenham.

In a post that paid tribute to his iconic rabona goal against Arsenal back in 2021, Lamela made sure to interact with the upload, commenting: “Tottenham Hotspur, I miss you”

The winger, although never winning silverware for Tottenham, always left his spirit and heart on the pitch for the club, and with a new chapter set to get started, everyone wishes him success in his new role. Of course, he will forever be remembered for that Puskas-winning rabona strike against the enemy.
