Luis Enrique saw his Paris Saint-Germain side emerge victorious against Tottenham Hotspur via a penalty shootout in the UEFA Super Cup, but he has made an interesting confession about the North London side.

Spurs are still licking their wounds from the UEFA Super Cup loss after throwing their 2-0 lead away in the dying stages of the game.

Some Tottenham players have admitted that the nature of the defeat against PSG was a hard pill to swallow, given the position that they got themselves into.

Thomas Frank’s men now need to put the result behind them quickly and focus on Saturday, with Burnley visiting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their Premier League season-opener.

PSG’s win means that Enrique added yet another trophy to his CV, which is brimming with silverware.

The Spaniard has transformed the Parisians since taking over two years ago, but in an alternate world, he could have potentially been in the Spurs dugout.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Super Cup clash, the 55-year-old confessed that Tottenham were one of the sides who approached him before he decided to take over at Parc des Princes.

When asked if he had the chance to go to Spurs, Enrique responded (via George Sessions): “Well, there were some options for me in the last six months before I came to Paris, and Tottenham were one of them.”

After his side won on penalties, the PSG boss made a confession which comes as a huge compliment to Thomas Frank and Tottenham.

Enrique admitted Spurs were the better side and PSG were lucky to win the Super Cup, pointing out that the Premier League side were on top for 85 minutes of the game.

Frank can take heart from winning the tactical battle against one of the best managers in the game, but he will now have to gear up for a very different challenge against Burnley on Saturday.
