Harry Kane reveals what he told Heung-min Son by text after Tottenham exit

0

Former Tottenham striker Harry Kane hailed his long-time team-mate Heung-min Son as a club legend and admitted he was delighted to see him lift a trophy before leaving North London.

For years, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min lit up the Premier League, forming the greatest attacking partnership in the competition’s history. With a record 47 mutual goal contributions, they surpassed even legendary pairings like Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, and Thierry Henry with Robert Pires.

Kane left for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, while Son remained in North London to captain the side for two more seasons, famously leading Spurs to Europa League glory last year.

But earlier this month, the South Korean skipper joined MLS outfit LAFC, marking the first time in over a decade that Tottenham took to the pitch without either half of their record-breaking duo.

When Spurs visited Munich last week for their final pre-season friendly. It was Harry Kane who opened the scoring against his former club in a 4-0 win.

After the game, the England captain took time to speak about his old strike partner, joining the many players who congratulated Son via social media following his move.

‘He will go down as a Tottenham legend’ – Harry Kane

Speaking exclusively to Spurs after the match, Kane was full of praise for the outgoing captain:

“Huge congratulations to Sonny on his time at Spurs. He will go down as a Tottenham legend, and there was no better way to finish than by winning that trophy last season. I was so pleased for him and a lot of the other guys that I know so well, so good luck to him.”

Some fans had wondered why Kane hadn’t publicly addressed Son’s departure straight away. The striker revealed that the pair had already been in touch privately, adding: “I texted him earlier this morning and he said we need to catch up soon. Of course, I miss him as a player and as a person as well, but hopefully he does well out in America.”

Kane admits he was proud to see Heung-min Son lift silverware

Immediately after the game, Kane wasn’t late to pen a heartfelt note for Son on X, writing:

“Sonny Sonny Sonny. What can I say? We shared so many magical moments together on and off the pitch over the years. As a person and a player, you deserved all the success you’ve enjoyed. One of the very best people in the game. It gave me such joy to see you lift a trophy last season, and no doubt you’ll be a success with your next steps. See you soon.”

With Spurs heading into the 2025/26 season for the first time in a decade without either Son or Kane, Thomas Frank’s men will be without experienced finishers and leaders up front. But hopefully, the younger players can step up.
