Bayern Munich reveal why they decided to loan Joao Palhinha to Tottenham

0

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has now explained the club’s decision to loan Joao Palhinha to Tottenham Hotspur, just a year after signing the midfielder.

Bayern and Tottenham Hotspur have done plenty of business over recent years, with Harry Kane and Eric Dier moving from N17 to the Allianz Arena, while Mathys Tel and now Joao Palhinha have moved in the opposite direction.

It is clear that the two clubs have a very good relationship, and that perhaps helped the Lilywhites in getting a favourable deal, with Tottenham managing to land Palhinha on loan just a year after Bayern spent £47m on him.

Even Thomas Frank has admitted that he is surprised Bayern agreed to loan Palhinha to Spurs, and the Dane revealed that he is delighted to have him on board.

Bayern Munich shed light on Joao Palhinha agreement with Tottenham

The deal is not without its benefits for the German club, with Tottenham set to cover the entirety of Palhinha’s bumper salary during his stay in North London.

Max Eberl has now insisted that Bayern felt that the deal suited all parties after the former Fulham man’s struggles to get regular game time at the Allianz Arena.

When asked about Palhinha’s move to Spurs, Eberl told Bild: “Unfortunately, João didn’t get the playing time we hoped for last season.

“With Tottenham, we found the best solution for all parties. Joao can complete a full season there at the highest international level. We wish him all the best for the upcoming season.”

Palhinha reveals the main reason he agreed to join Spurs

Speaking last week to Tottenham’s official media, Palhinha said Thomas Frank was the main reason why he chose Spurs.

The midfielder insisted that from his conversation with Frank, it was clear that the Dane really wanted him at the North London club.

Palhinha declared that his aim is to win titles at Tottenham, remarking that the Lilywhites have the quality in their squad to do ‘something special’ this season.
