How much Tottenham are paying to take Joao Palhinha on loan for one season
A new report has revealed that Tottenham are paying a significant loan fee for Joao Palhinha, along with covering his bumper salary for the upcoming season.
It was reported that Palhinha has joined Tottenham on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for €30m (£26m).
The deal has left many people surprised, given that Bayern Munich paid £47m for Palhinha just 12 months ago.
However, it has been widely reported that Spurs will pay the Portugal international’s full salary, which means that Palhinha will become one of the highest-paid players on Tottenham’s books.
Tottenham will pay Bayern Munich a significant loan fee for Joao Palhinha
A new report in BILD (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now elaborated on the financial details of the midfielder’s move to North London, and it turns out that the deal may be more expensive for Spurs than previously reported.
The outlet claims that the Premier League side will pay a loan fee of €7m (£6m) to the Bundesliga giants for the former Fulham man.
The report also confirms that Tottenham Hotspur will pay Palinha’s full gross salary, which could rise to €10m (£8.7m) including bonuses.
That means that the Lilywhites could spend a total outlay of nearly £15m on the experienced midfielder for the season.
Thomas Frank admits Palhinha will fill an important gap in Spurs squad
It has been widely reported that Thomas Frank is a big fan of Palhinha, and the Spurs head coach himself seemed to confirm that a couple of days ago.
Frank admitted that Palhinha’s ability to break up play will be crucial for Spurs, especially when they come up against counter-attacking teams.
The 51-year-old insisted that the 30-year-old is a different profile to the other midfielders in his squad and also spoke highly of the newcomer’s set-piece ability in both boxes.
