Tottenham expected to accept £5.1m bid, but the price could rise in the future

Alejo Veliz’s exit from Tottenham Hotspur now appears to be getting ever closer, with a report from Argentina revealing that a second offer has arrived at Hotspur Way for the striker after the Lilywhites turned down the first one a few days ago.

Earlier this week, it was revealed Spurs had received an offer of $5m (£3.6m) for 60 per cent of Veliz’s rights from Racing Club de Avellaneda, with the deal seeing the Premier League club retain a 40 per cent sell-on clause on the youngster.

Subsequently, it emerged that Racing are making a significant push to land Veliz, with the Argentine club alleged to be locked in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur for the 21-year-old.

It has now been suggested that the two clubs might finally be close to reaching a breakthrough that would see the young forward return to his home country.

Racing Club de Avellaneda’s second offer totals £5.1m

TyC Sports reporter German Garcia Grova has now taken to social media to reveal that the Primera Division club have raised their offer after seeing their first bid turned down by Spurs.

He claims that Racing have now offered $7m (£5.1m) plus a 30% sell-on clause for Veliz and adds that an “okay is expected” from Spurs within a matter of hours.

Garcia Grova’s information regarding the value of Racing’s second offer is backed up by another report in MDZ (as relayed by Sport Witness), who claim that it is ‘close to being accepted’ by Tottenham.

The outlet adds that if the operation goes through, the Spurs forward will be Racing’s new club-record signing.

Are Tottenham right to cut their losses on Alejo Veliz?

While Veliz has struggled during his loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol, one would have thought that Tottenham would persist with the youngster, given that he is only 21 years of age.

However, it appears that the centre-forward has been scarred by his loan experiences in La Liga, with several reports indicating that Veliz is desperate to return to Argentina.

Tottenham might thus be making the best out of a bad situation and could be looking to insure themselves by adding a big sell-on clause for the forward, which indicates that they still have high expectations for the youngster.
