Arsenal take big step in Eberechi Eze pursuit but Tottenham remain confident
The Gunners are now advancing towards Eberechi Eze as they aim to hijack Tottenham’s move for the Crystal Palace star, but not everyone at Arsenal is convinced about a move for the attacking midfielder.
It has emerged over the past 24 hours that Arsenal are prepared to challenge Tottenham for Eze’s services, which potentially poses a headache for the Lilywhites.
Thomas Frank’s men previously appeared to be in the driving seat to land the Crystal Palace star, with reports indicating that Eze was keen on a move to Spurs.
While the entry of Arsenal into the race is not ideal for Spurs, a new update has explained why not everyone at N5 is convinced about making a move for the England international.
Arsenal hold talks over Eberechi Eze move amid Tottenham links
The Sun have now revealed that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has already spoken to Eze’s representatives about a potential switch to the Emirates this summer.
Interestingly, it is explained that Berta will have to convince the Arsenal hierarchy that a deal for the Palace star would be ‘worthwhile’, with some at the club having reservations about the attacking midfielder’s age.
Eze will turn 27 this Sunday and some decision-makers at Arsenal are against signing two players of that age during the current window, with 27-year-old Viktor Gyokeres also on their radar.
It is also pointed out that landing Eze would reduce the Gunners’ funds to pursue a striker, which was identified as a priority by Arteta’s men at the start of the summer.
Spurs are confident of winning the race for Eze
While it seems based on this update from The Sun that not everyone at Arsenal is fully behind the Eze pursuit, that is not the case at Tottenham Hotspur, who appear to be moving forward with more conviction.
Earlier today, we relayed a report from TEAMtalk, which claimed that Spurs are ready to pay Eze’s £68m release clause as Frank is convinced that the Palace man would be the ideal addition to the club’s attack.
The outlet asserted that the Lilywhites are confident of beating out the competition to the former QPR man’s signature, given the player’s keenness to be part of Frank’s project at N17.
