West Brom want to take Tottenham starlet on loan, but Thomas Frank wanted him in the past

0

Thomas Frank wants to assess one Tottenham academy striker in pre-season, having almost succeeded in taking him to the Gtech Community Stadium three years ago.

The Danish coach has his work cut out ahead of his first season at Spurs, with reports indicating that Frank will be backed with big funds to rebuild the Tottenham squad.

However, there are many players at Tottenham that the 51-year-old is already a fan of. According to reports, Frank tried to take Brennan Johnson and Archie Gray to Brentford before the Lilywhites won the race for the pair.

Additionally, in his first interview with the club channel two weeks ago, Frank said that he is excited to work with Dominic Solanke, James Maddison, and Rodrigo Bentancur.

It has now emerged that there is another 20-year-old Spurs youngster whose development the Tottenham boss has followed closely.

Thomas Frank wants to assess Will Lankshear in pre-season

Will Lanshear made an impact in the Tottenham first team last season, scoring his first senior goal in the club’s Europa League clash at Galatasaray.

However, the youngster failed to find the back of the net in 11 appearances for West Brom during his loan spell at the Hawthorns in the second half of last season.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that following Ryan Mason’s appointment as the Baggies’ head coach, the Championship side are showing interest in re-signing the striker on loan.

Additionally, other sides from the second tier, as well as clubs from abroad, have also expressed a willingness to sign Lankshear on a temporary deal.

However, Tottenham are not expected to sanction a move for the striker right now as Frank wants to take a closer look at him this summer.

In fact, Gold reveals that the 51-year-old came close to taking Lankshear to Brentford, with the Bees allegedly having agreed a fee with Sheffield United for the youngster back in 2022 before Spurs hijacked the deal.

Why Will Lankshear is likely to be loaned out

According to reports, Frank’s main focus this summer is on adding to Tottenham’s attacking stocks this summer.

The chances of Lankshear getting game time at N17 are slim, even though Richarlison is expected to depart, as several sources indicate that despite the arrival of Mathys Tel, Spurs are expected to sign another number nine to challenge Dominic Solanke.

With Tottenham playing in the Champions League rather than the Europa League, there are unlikely to be too many opportunities for the youngsters to showcase their qualities.

It thus looks very likely that Lankshear will be loaned out to continue getting game time and developing, with a return to West Brom to unite with Mason seemingly on the cards.
