Tottenham urged to rival Manchester United for £52m Chelsea flop this summer

0

Tottenham have been encouraged to rival Manchester United for the signing of Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, with one former player urging the club to move swiftly.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to embark on a major rebuild this summer window as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 25/26 season.

New head coach Thomas Frank has been tasked with the assignment to take on this rebuild, after he replaced Ange Postecoglou this summer, following the sacking of the Australian.

Several positions in the Spurs team need reinforcement, including the attack, where Tottenham could be left thin, should Heung-min Son and Richarlison leave this summer.

Tottenham told to consider Christopher Nkunku signing

Steffen Freund believes that the Lilywhites should bolster their attack as well ahead of the 25/26 season, and he has urged Spurs to consider Chelsea man Christopher Nkunku.

The French forward has struggled since he completed his move from RB Leipzig to Stamford Bridge two seasons ago, but Freund is convinced that he could find his feet at Hotspur Way.

“Tottenham need another attacking option,” the former Spurs man told Hochgepokert.

“I would look at Christopher Nkunku if I were them – he can make the difference. He can play in behind the striker and up front, he is already at Chelsea. He did an outstanding job at RB Leipzig; he is currently underperforming but there is a great player in there.

“Mathys Tel is a good signing, he can play up front, and on the wing, he would link up well with Nkunku.”

Freund his right, as Nkunku lit up the Bundesliga, scoring 70 goals and assisting 56 during his spell in the German top flight.

However, in Chelsea, the versatile forward has struggled to make a notable impact, scoring just 17 goals and assisting five in 58 appearances.

Spurs face transfer battle with Manchester United and Arsenal

Of course, Tottenham have already been linked with a move for Nkunku this summer, but they are not alone in their pursuit of the French forward.

It is reported that Manchester United are also monitoring the winger’s situation, as there has been talk of a Garnacho and Nkunku swap deal between Chelsea and the Red Devils.

Spurs are no strangers to battling United for a transfer target, as the Lilywhites tried to hijack United’s move for Bryan Mbeumo, yet the Brentford man still prefers to join the Red Devils.

Arsenal are also said to be keeping an eye on Nkunku, as the £52million forward’s future remains uncertain.
