Kota Takai’s arrival could spell bad news for two Tottenham youngsters

0

Alasdair Gold has revealed that the impending arrival of Kota Takai at Tottenham may force Thomas Frank’s hand to make a difficult decision on the futures of two Spurs youngsters.

Kota Takai is expected to be Tottenham’s second signing of the Frank era, with the Lilywhites allegedly striking a £5m deal to sign the young centre-back from J League side Kawasaki Frontale.

Takai reportedly rejected three European clubs in favour of a move to Spurs, with the North Londoners hoping that the 20-year-old can hit the ground running at the club, just as Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray did last season.

With the Japanese starlet’s arrival, Spurs now boast of several extremely talented young centre-backs in their squad, including Luka Vuskovic, Ashley Phillips and Alfie Dorrington, and Gold has now predicted what will happen to two of these players.

Alasdair Gold says two young defenders unlikely to remain at Tottenham

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now explained that Spurs are eagerly anticipating getting their first up-close look at Vuskovic, with the Croat and Takai both set to be assessed in pre-season.

However, he explains that the presence of the Croat and the Japanese centre-backs may spell bad news for Alfie Dorrington and Ashley Phillips.

With Thomas Frank now having a bloated squad in pre-season, he will be faced with some big decisions to make space for new signings.

The journalist thus suggests that neither Phillips nor Dorrington are likely to be part of the Dane’s first-team plans next season, with both players set to be loaned out again.

Frank has made an interesting decision on Ashley Phillips

While one can understand where Alasdair Gold is coming from, we have heard something very interesting about the new Tottenham head coach’s assessment of one young defender.

According to Journalist Alan Nixon, Thomas Frank has asked Spurs to reject loan offers for Phillips for the time being as he is keen to take a closer look at the 19-year-old.

Nixon claimed that the new Tottenham boss wants a big squad going into next season to cope with the demands of Champions League football, and he believes that the young defender can have a role to play.
