What Tottenham sources are saying about Guglielmo Vicario’s future after Thomas Frank arrival

0

A new report has shed light on whether Thomas Frank is contemplating selling Tottenham number one Guglielmo Vicario as the new Spurs head coach looks to put his imprint on the squad ahead of the new season.

Mark Flekken has been crucial to the way Brentford played under Frank, with the Dutch goalkeeper often tasked with finding passes over the top to beat the opposition’s first line of press.

It was reported by TBR Football this week that Frank could decide to sell Vicario and sign a replacement goalkeeper who is more suited to his style of play.

According to reports, AC Milan are eyeing Vicario as their top target to replace Mike Maignan, who is expected to leave San Siro this summer.

Is Guglielmo Vicario likely to be sold by Tottenham?

The Sun have now claimed that Frank is not likely to sell any of his shot-stoppers or sign new ones before his first season in charge at N17.

The report points out that Milan are interested in Tottenham’s number one, but adds that sources at Spurs dismissed the prospect of Vicario being sold by the club this summer.

However, that does not mean that Frank does not have a decision to make regarding the number one role, with the outlet stating that the Dane will have to decide whether to continue with the Italian or start with January signing Antonin Kinsky.

Why Frank cannot afford to let Vicario leave Spurs

The new Tottenham head coach already has work to do to win over the Spurs squad, with reports indicating that some Tottenham players are angry with the club’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou.

Frank thus needs to get the leaders on his side and with Vicario being influential in the Tottenham dressing room, the 51-year-old may be wise to develop a good relationship with the Italian.

That is particularly true given the ongoing speculation linking Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son with exits from Tottenham.
