Christian Eriksen reveals whether he could join Thomas Frank at Tottenham
Christian Eriksen has backed Thomas Frank to take on a new challenge at Tottenham Hotspur, but also ruled out a return to N17 this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur are yet to officially confirm their replacement for Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked on 6 June, with the Australian coach bowing out having delivered Spurs their first piece of silverware in years, after lifting the UEFA Europa League.
It is understood that Tottenham are now pushing ahead in their efforts to appoint a new head coach, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank is believed to be their top candidate.
Talks between Frank and chairman Daniel Levy have reportedly been ongoing, with an official announcement confirming Thomas Frank’s appointment expected in the coming days, as Tottenham look to secure a deal swiftly to begin preparations for pre-season.
Christian Eriksen believes Thomas Frank is the right man for Tottenham
Indeed, a move from Brentford to Tottenham represents a major step up, and it is one that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola had previously suggested would come for Thomas Frank, tipping him for a bigger European job.
While the move is yet to be finalised, Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet have now reported what former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen had to say about Frank potentially taking over in N17.
The former Manchester United midfielder, who worked with Frank during his spell at Brentford, was full of praise for the 51-year-old, suggesting that his personality and tactical approach make him a strong fit for Tottenham.
He said, “I think he is the right coach for Tottenham. I have had Thomas at various times, and I think he is the perfect match for Tottenham, and it would be great if Thomas takes on that challenge.
“His personality, his way of playing and his way of being. And the club considering where they were last season – they won a trophy of course – but they are in the process of building something up, and I am sure that Thomas is a good man to bring in.”
Christian Eriksen shuts down talk of Spurs return
Of course, just like Thomas Frank, Christian Eriksen could be on the move this summer, as the 33-year-old is currently a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Manchester United.
A return to Tottenham might have seemed a romantic prospect for some, particularly if it meant reuniting with Frank for a second time after their spell together at Brentford in 2022.
However, Eriksen has dismissed any talk of a move back to north London, saying, “No, not where we are now, so Thomas should call if something happens,” before adding with a smile, “no, no, no,” when asked if Frank had been in touch.
