Even Liverpool star thinks Cristian Romero is better than Virgil van Dijk

0

Alexis Mac Allister has been extremely complimentary of his international teammate Cristian Romero, but Tottenham fans will not like what the Liverpool man has said about the Argentine’s future.

The Tottenham vice-captain has two years left on his contract but his future at the club very much remains up in the air.

According to reports over recent days, Daniel Levy is desperate to tie Cristian Romero down to a new Tottenham deal and is prepared to offer the Argentine a big pay rise to get him to commit his future to the club.

However, Atletico Madrid are thought to be extremely keen on landing Romero, with the centre-back said to have his heart set on linking up with his compatriot Diego Simeone at the Spanish capital.

Alexis Mac Allister wants Liverpool to sign Cristian Romero

Mac Allister has now added fuel to the speculation about the Spurs man by admitting that he would love to see his international teammate make a move to the Premier League champions this summer.

The former Brighton man insisted that the 27-year-old has been the best centre-back in the world for the past few years, a big claim, considering that the midfielder plays alongside Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.

When asked which player from the Argentine national team he would like to see at Reds, Mac Allister told TNT Sports: “Oops, Cuti (Romero). He’s a player that fascinates me.

“With the way he talks and plays, sometimes you even feel that he has more than enough because he makes everything easy. It gives me confidence. For me, he has been the best centre-back in the world for several years.”

Could Spurs convince Romero to stay?

Over recent weeks, Romero has made some promising comments that hint at a potential Tottenham stay.

However, reports from Argentina had previously indicated that Tottenham’s only chance of keeping Romero was if Ange Postecoglou had stayed.

It has also been made clear by a few sources that unless Romero signs a new contract, Spurs will listen to offers for him this summer. Barring a major turnaround, it thus looks like the centre-back might be on his way out of N17.
