Tottenham brace for 'aggressive' transfer pursuit over the coming weeks

0

Tottenham are said to be preparing themselves for a potential transfer tug-of-war as Atletico Madrid refuse to back down in their pursuit of Cristian Romero.

News on Cristian Romero’s future continues to do the rounds ahead of the summer window, with the defender still attracting interest from Spain.

Tottenham Hotspur would, of course, have hoped that their recent Europa League triumph would help deter some of this interest, with the club now set to play UEFA Champions League football, a competition the Argentine was so desperate to be a part of.

However, that has not been the case, as Atletico Madrid continues to push to sign Cristian Romero, whose contract at Tottenham is set to expire in 2027.

Atletico Madrid set to test Tottenham over Cristian Romero transfer

Football Insider has now revealed that Atletico Madrid’s interest in Tottenham’s vice-captain, Cristian Romero, will not go away, despite the N17 club securing Champions League qualification.

The Spanish side are not backing down, and it has been reported that Atletico Madrid are ready to test Tottenham’s resolve to keep the centre-back this summer.

Romero, who is keen for Spurs to keep Ange Postecoglou in the dugout, continues to be aggressively pursued by Atletico, who remain firm admirers of the Argentine defender.

Romero’s message offers hope for Spurs fans

Earlier this week, Romero sent a hint about potentially staying at Tottenham when he stated, “I have no doubt that staying together led us to success. We must continue; this is the path,” – a message that might serve as a positive for Tottenham fans, giving them something to hold onto during the summer window.

Fabrizio Romano’s recent reports on Romero also offer some hope, as he has stated that while the Argentine centre-back continues to attract interest, Daniel Levy is expected to make it difficult for the 27-year-old defender to leave this summer.

He also stated that the potential signing of sporting director Fabio Paratici in the coming weeks could work in Tottenham’s favour, with the former club director keen on working with Romero once again, after bringing him to north London back in 2021.

Tottenham, of course, would be desperate to keep hold of their star centre-back, who was named Man of the Match in their biggest game of last season.
