Tottenham fans will love what Heung-min Son did during trophy celebrations on Sunday
Heung-min Son has written his name into Tottenham’s folklore by leading the club to their first European trophy in 41 years, and the 32-year-old’s special gesture on Sunday showed just how much the success meant to him.
Many Spurs fans were desperate for Heung-min Son to hoist a trophy, given the decade-long service he has given Tottenham and the loyalty he has shown to the club through the consent heartbreak.
Son proudly announced that he can now finally call himself a Spurs legend after the final whistle in Bilbao and he has been on cloud nine since the events of last week.
Tottenham fans saw a version of Son that they had never seen during the club’s trophy parade as he dropped an F-bomb after being overcome with pure emotion when addressing the crowd.
Heung-min Son does a solo lap around the stadium on Sunday
Son was in a jubilant mood again when the trophy was paraded around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time following the club’s final game of the season against Brighton.
Almost the entire crowd stayed behind to watch the players and the staff do a lap of honour around the ground with their families.
Interestingly, while all the Tottenham players and their families eventually celebrated in front of the South Stand after the lap of honour, Heung-min Son did something different.
The Tottenham captain slipped away from the group and did another solo lap around the stadium for the supporters, clapping, bowing, and waving to every corner of the stadium.
Son’s legendary status is secure but he will be hungry for more success
If Heung-min Son was not already a Tottenham legend, he certainly is now after becoming the man who led the side to their first trophy since 2008.
Some rumours were doing the rounds a few months ago that Son’s time at Spurs may come to an end this summer, with the forward entering the final year of his contract.
However, after creating history, the 32-year-old will undoubtedly want to stay and win more, and one would expect the club to reward the South Korean with a new deal, irrespective of who the Tottenham manager is at the start of next season.
