Chelsea legend slides into shock contention for Tottenham job after Ange Postecoglou

0

As the speculation continues surrounding Tottenham’s expected managerial vacancy this summer, a new report has suggested that Spurs may make a shock move for a Chelsea legend, who is currently managing in the EFL.

If reports over the last few days are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur are not just considering candidates who are proven at the highest level, but also young, up-and-coming English managers who are yet to cut their teeth among the elite.

It was reported earlier this week that Spurs are admirers of Kieran McKenna, even though Ipswich Town are set to go straight back down to the Championship.

It has also been suggested that Scott Parker is in consideration for the Tottenham job after achieving promotion with Burnley, and now another young English manager has been mooted as a potential candidate for the N17 hot seat.

Tottenham are considering a move for Frank Lampard

According to Fichajes, Frank Lampard has now emerged as a shock contender for the Tottenham job as the Lilywhites continue to consider various candidates to replace Ange Postecoglou this summer.

Lampard had unsuccessful spells in the Premier League with both Chelsea and Everton, and the 46-year-old had to drop back down to the Championship to rebuild his reputation, taking over as Coventry City’s head coach back in November of last year.

The former England international has done an impressive job with the Sky Blues, who are now battling for a play-off spot. However, it is fair to say that Tottenham fans will not be too enthusiastic over the prospect of him sitting in the Spurs dugout next summer.

Are Spurs casting their manager net far and wide?

Based on the sheer number of managers being linked with Spurs over the last few weeks, it does not appear as if the club have settled on a top target.

Daniel Levy appears to be casting his net wide in their effort to make the right appointment, but one would expect their list to shorten over the next couple of weeks.

However, the Spurs hierarchy will know better than to turn to someone like Lampard as they will be aware of the negative PR such a move would generate, given the 46-year-old’s Chelsea connections and his poor record in the Premier League.
