Tottenham ‘pushing’ to beat Bayer Leverkusen to PSG centre-back
Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a highly-rated French teenage centre-back ahead of the summer, and their pursuit of the player has been boosted by a recent development regarding his contract.
Even though Tottenham brought Kevin Danso through the door in January, the North London club are expected to add further reinforcements at centre-back this summer.
This is because Ben Davies’ contract runs out in June, while Cristian Romero has been backed to leave Spurs this summer.
A new report from France has now claimed that the Lilywhites are now plotting a move for a Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate, whose future at the club is in doubt.
Tottenham battling Bayer Leverkusen for PSG teenager
This update comes from RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who reveals that PSG starlet Axel Tape could be on the move this summer.
The 17-year-old centre-back made his senior bow for the Parisians back in January, but he is not expected to sign his first professional contract with the club.
This has alerted Tottenham Hotspur, who are now ‘pushing’ to sign the versatile defender, who has also operated as a defensive midfielder in youth football.
Hawkins reveals that the Premier League side face competition from Bayer Leverkusen who are currently ‘well-positioned’ to land Axel Tape.
Tottenham need an experienced centre-back to replace Cristian Romero
Tottenham are not short of talented young centre-backs, with Luka Vusokvic, Alfie Dorrington and Ashley Phillips showing plenty of promise.
If Spurs were to lose Romero this summer, they would have to use those funds towards signing a centre-back who is proven at the highest level and can slot into the team straight away.
It has been reported over recent weeks that Tottenham see Marc Guehi as the ideal option to replace Romero, and while the Palace man will be a statement signing, it remains to be seen if the Lilywhites can persuade him to move to N17.
