Bobby Zamora names shock Tottenham teammate who should have been best-ever

0

Bobby Zamora has said that one midfielder he played with at Tottenham Hotspur had the talent to become one of the best in the world in his position.

Over recent decades, Tottenham Hotspur fans have seen a number of extremely talented young players at the club fail to live up to their billing despite looking like world-beaters when they come through.

Academy graduates such as Alex Pritchard and Tom Carroll have not had the careers at the top level that many might have expected them to while the likes of Adel Taarabt and Kevin Prince Boateng also arguably failed to fulfil their potential.

The most recent example of that could be someone like Dele Alli, but Zamora has now put a name forward that many Spurs fans would be surprised by.

Bobby Zamora makes big claim about Stephane Dalmat

Zamora was discussing the players he played with who failed to deliver on their promise, and he unsurprisingly mentioned Taarabt.

However, the former Spurs striker also put forward the name of Stephane Dalmat, insisting that the Frenchman was a ‘maverick’ who could have gone on to be one of the best ever.

The 44-year-old told Stadium Astro: “Taarabt, yeah, he was incredible, he was one of the most naturally gifted footballers I’ve seen in my life, up there with Ravel Morrison.

“Those two and Stephane Dalmat as well at Spurs, those three were mavericks. Could have been up there with the best ever. But there’s just something that didn’t click for them. It’s disappointing.”

Stephane Dalmat’s curious Tottenham career

Dalmat spent just one year on loan at White Hart Lane during the 2003-04 season and made a total of just 22 appearances for Tottenham.

While the midfielder showed glimpses of his quality, he was never quite able to deliver the kind of consistent performances that did justice to his talent.

Part of the Frenchman’s issue might have been the fact that he never actually stayed at a single club for a sustained period, having had a bit of a journeyman career, where he played for 12 different clubs across Ligue 1, Serie A, Premier League and La Liga.
