Heung-min Son has been waiting two months to redeem Tottenham mistake
Heung-min Son was ice cold from 12 yards out on Sunday, expertly converting a spot-kick to help Tottenham salvage a point against Bournemouth. The forward has now made an admission about finding the back of the net after missing his last penalty in the Premier League.
For a long time, Tottenham had one of the best penalty-takers in world football in Harry Kane. When the club’s record goalscorer left in 2023, Son was the obvious candidate to take over penalty duties.
The South Korean is as pure a ball striker as there is in world football and has an excellent record from the spot, but he did miss the last penalty he took in the Premier League.
The last time he stepped up was against Wolves in the club’s final league game of 2024, with the 32-year-old seeing his effort saved by Jose Sa.

However, there were barely any signs of nerves when the Tottenham captain stepped up against the Cherries after he was brought down in the box late on.
Son waited for Kepa Arrizabalaga to dive before calmly slotting the ball the other way, thus making sure that Spurs avoided yet another home defeat.
The forward has now admitted that he has been practising spot-kicks regularly after training and was keen to make amends for his missed penalty against Wolves.
When asked if the penalty against the Cherries had gone to plan, Son told Tottenham’s official website: “Obviously, yes! I’m always practising after training. That was the moment I always wanted after my miss against Wolves.
“I just tried to stay calm and just be decisive and do what I choose to do. I was very committed to it. When the ball hit the net, I was very happy that I could help the team.”
Son needs to step up for Tottenham against Alkmaar
There continues to be speculation over the future of the experienced forward, with some outlets suggesting that Son is keen on swapping Spurs for a fresh challenge in the summer.
If this is to be the South Korean’s last season at the club, he will be desperate to end it on a high with a trophy.
Tottenham’s main talisman will thus be extremely driven to step up on Thursday and do all he can to keep the club’s Europa League dreams alive.
