Tottenham star is fasting for Ramadan but still impressed against Bournemouth

0

Alasdair Gold has just revealed a detail about Pape Matar Sarr, which makes the Tottenham midfielder’s all-action performance against Bournemouth on Sunday appear even more impressive.

Out of the midfield trio who started the game for Spurs on Sunday, Pape Matar Sarr was the only one who was playing with any sort of purpose both on and off the ball.

The Senegal international put in a tireless display, getting up and down the pitch throughout the 90 minutes, and was rewarded with a goal in the second half as Spurs came from two goals down to level the game.

A detail has now emerged about what the midfielder was doing during matchday, which makes the energetic performance he delivered look unbelievable.

Alasdair Gold reveals Pape Sarr was fasting on Sunday

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now revealed that, as a Muslim, the 22-year-old is taking part in Ramadan, a month of prayer and reflection that will last until the celebration of Eid on Sunday, March 30.

As a part of Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink during daylight hours over this period to show their devotion to their religion.

Sarr had thus been fasting since dawn on Sunday, having not even consumed any fluids all day, but still managed to play 90 minutes in what was an extremely demanding game against an energetic Cherries side, who love to get in their opponent’s faces.

Should Sarr start for Tottenham against Alkmaar?

It seems fairly clear that James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall are nailed on to start on Thursday after both players were rested against Bournemouth and came on as substitutes.

While Ange Postecoglou might have preferred to lean on experience against Alkmaar, Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended for the second leg. Sarr’s engine might thus come in handy in a game that could potentially go to extra time.

The Senegal international will feel that he has done enough to keep his place in the side after his display against Andoni Iraola’s men.
