Ange Postecoglou delivers Tottenham injury update on Romero, Solanke, Van de Ven
Angle Postecoglou has provided an injury update ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League round of 16 clash against AZ Alkmaar.
Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a crucial Europa League round of 16 clash against Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar on Thursday evening.
Ange Postecoglou’s men are set to face the Dutch outfit for the second time in this season’s competition, with a spot in the quarter-finals at stake.
Spurs head into this fixture with a significant boost on the injury front, as key centre-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are both in contention for a place in the starting eleven, with the latter spotted in training a few days back.
Main striker Dominic Solanke, who has been sidelined for a month, has also shown promising signs of recovery. The Englishman returned to first-team training ahead of Spurs’ premier league clash against Manchester City, raising hopes of his availability for Thursday’s match.
Of course, Ben Davies, who has missed Tottenham’s last two Premier League outings, is also expected to be fit in time for the clash, having been ruled out in recent weeks.
While several players have returned to contention, others remain sidelined. Radu Dragusin, who suffered an ACL injury, is out for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Dejan Kulusevski has also been struck by injury, picking up a foot problem in the build-up to the match. His availability remains uncertain, adding to the challenges Postecoglou faces in his attacking selection.
Ange Postecoglou provides update on Cristian Romero and returning Tottenham stars
Speaking to football.london ahead of the clash, the Tottenham boss has now shared an update on the fitness of Romero, van de Ven, Kulusevski and Solanke.
He said: “In terms of haven’t travelled, Deki Kulusevski is the only one. He got a knock on the foot and he’s not sure when really. He’s been able to train and play over the last few weeks.
“We’ve done some further investigations and no real clarity. Unlikely to be back before the international break, but nothing serious and no surgery or anything.
“Ben Davies is also back [home] at the training ground with Richarlison.”
On whether Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, and Dominic Solanke could start, he added: “We’ll see. They’ve all been out for a significant amount of time so we’ll see when we introduce them.”
