Tottenham had a chance to loan out Lucas Bergvall, Ange Postecoglou admits

Tottenham Hotspur’s manager has now revealed that the club were close to loaning out 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall, but opted not to.

The current 24/25 season for Tottenham Hotspur has been turbulent, to say the least. An injury crisis and poor League form have left the Lilywhites in the bottom half of the League table.

The Cup competitions have been no better. Ange Postecoglou’s side in 72 hours got knocked out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup – severely reducing their chance of silverware.

However, despite the turbulence, there are a few silver linings. The boss continually reiterates that the development of his youngster is one of the positives from this crisis.

Ange Postecoglou implies Tottenham received a loan offer for Lucas Bergvall

Speaking ahead of their clash against Ipswich Town, Ange Postecoglou has now revealed that the club were close to loaning out 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall.

When asked whether he trusted Archie, Lucas and Djed in the Premier League, Postecoglou told football.london: “Yeah, I’m not sure about trust. I mean, I really thought that guys like Lucas and Archie could definitely contribute.

“That’s why we kept them. We made a decision because there was an option, particularly with Lucas, to loan him out and I really felt working through pre-season that Archie and Lucas could definitely contribute to us.”

Bergvall has contributed to Spurs in his first season

The manager’s intuition about Lucas Bergvall was right. The youngster has definitely contributed to Spurs in his first season.

So far this campaign, the teenager has scored once, assisted thrice and has started 15 times for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

His stand-out moment from this season was his goal against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. The youngster has definitely repaid the trust his manager showed in him.
