Struggling Tottenham player could join Lionel Messi in the MLS

0

Tottenham Hotspur have already made a transfer decision regarding their forward, with a move to the United States of America now emerging as an option for the player.

Timo Werner has been at Tottenham for over a year now and barring a few moments of quality, he has generally flattered to deceive.

The German has got plenty of game time this season due to the club’s injury woes, but one would not expect him to get too many more opportunities over the coming months as Ange Postecoglou‘s attackers continue to recover one by one.

A report from Germany has now claimed that Spurs have already decided not to sign the 28-year-old permanently, with a move to the MLS now emerging as a possibility for the former Chelsea man.

Timo Werner could join New York Red Bulls this summer

According to a report in BILD, Tottenham have already made it clear that they have no intention of activating the €12m (£10m) option to sign the German international permanently in the summer.

As a result, he will return to RB Leipzig, where he is considered surplus to requirements. With Werner’s deal at the Red Bull Arena running out in 2026, the Bundesliga club are looking for a permanent sale rather than a loan.

One possible destination for the forward is Leipzig’s sister club, New York Red Bulls, with the outlet stating that the club could be a ‘perfect launch ramp’ for the pacy wide-man to get his career back on track.

Spurs did not want to let Werner leave in January

Interestingly, Sport Witness relay this report from Bild and offer their own information on Werner’s future.

They suggest that there was some interest in the German during the January window, but a move was not possible at the time as Tottenham did not want to let anyone go mid-season.

Ange Postecoglou made it clear in a press conference earlier this year that he had no interest in losing Timo Werner amid the Spurs injury crisis.

With the decision now out of the Premier League club’s hands, a move to New York ‘could get hot’ for Werner over the coming months.
