Tottenham fail with mega offer to sign Marc Guehi

Tottenham added to their defensive stocks by securing Kevin Danso from Lens in January, but they also reportedly tried to push through a sensational deal for another centre-back in the dying stages of the window.

It was widely reported that Tottenham submitted an offer of £70m for Marc Guehi, which was sent back by Crystal Palace, who did not want to lose a key man so late in the window.

Since the closure of the window, several sources have suggested that the England international still remains on Tottenham’s radar as the Lilywhites eye further defensive reinforcements in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano expects Spurs to face Marc Guehi competition

Tottenham are not the only ones eyeing Guehi, with various outlets claiming over recent weeks that Chelsea are also keen on re-signing their academy graduate and are confident that they would be able to beat Spurs.

Romano has now confirmed that the Palace man is indeed on the wishlist of Ange Postecoglou’s side and confirmed that an exit from Selhurst Park is very much on the cards for the player in the summer.

When quizzed on Spurs’ interest in Guehi, Romano told GiveMeSport: “Yes, he will be on Spurs and more clubs’ lists for sure. He has a contract until June 2026 and so he has chances to leave this summer.”

Crystal Palace’s stance on Guehi revealed

This update from Romano comes just a few days after Football Insider reported that Palace are already planning for life after Guehi.

It was explained in the report that with the centre-back entering the final year of his contract in June and refusing to sign a new deal, the Eagles are planning on cashing in on their prized asset this summer.

In fact, it was asserted that Oliver Glasner’s men have already started looking for like-for-like replacements for the centre-back as they expect a number of clubs to come knocking for the player in the summer.
