Jamie O’Hara leaps the the defence of Tottenham star who ‘never shys away’
Jamie O’Hara has leapt to the defence of one Tottenham midfielder, who is coming in for a lot of flak from pundits and media figures after he decided to send a message to his critics with his goal celebration on Sunday.
James Maddison responds to critics in style
Maddison might have only been out of action for a short time in comparison to some of his teammates, but his return was timely for Tottenham on Sunday as the attacking midfielder produced a fine performance to help the Lilywhites return to winning ways.
The 28-year-old got the game’s only goal, being the first to react after Lucas Bergvall‘s shot was parried away by Andre Onana.
Last week, Roy Keane had suggested that Maddison’s return would make no difference to the Tottenham side. In return, the England international decided to send a message to the Man Utd legend by doing a shushing celebration to the camera after finding the back of the net.
Jamie O’Hara defenders Maddison amidst criticism
Ange Postecoglou was certainly not surprised to see his vice-captain give it back to his critics after the things that were said about him last week, but not everyone is a fan of what the Tottenham man did.
O’Hara has leapt to the attacking midfielder’s defence and pointed out that Maddison has been the architect of many of Tottenham’s best performances so far this season.
He wrote: ‘What’s with all the Maddison hate right now? Find it uncomfortable, he’s been injured and when he’s played at his best he’s been a massive part of our best performances, he’s a guy who can unlock defences and he never shys away from getting on the ball, he’s not the problem.’
Maddison is well within his rights to reply to Roy Keane
Pundits have a right to criticise players but the players are also well within their rights to respond to the criticism.
Roy Keane has a tendency to be extremely harsh in his criticism, and a senior player like Maddison, who prides himself on his leadership and his ability, would have been stung by the Man Utd legend’s claim that his return to action will not lift any of his Tottenham teammates.
