Tottenham Hotspur win against struggling Man United

Tottenham Hotspur ended their poor cup run—having suffered defeats to Aston Villa and Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup—by securing a Premier League victory against Manchester United on Sunday.

It was a 13th-minute strike from James Maddison that proved to be the decider in the clash that saw two struggling sides lock horns.

The victory lifted Spurs to 12th place in the league,14 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League spot.

Tottenham duo named in Premier League Team of the Week

WhoScored has now put together their team of the week for this round of fixtures. The team has representatives from Tottenham, Brighton, Southampton, Manchester United, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Manchester City and Everton.

For Tottenham Hotspur, two players made it, Guglielmo Vicario who just returned from injury and Djed Spence who was the player of the match.

In their column, WhoScored wrote about Vicario after giving him an 8.37 rating: “Returning from injury after more than two months sidelined, Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario helped his side to only their fourth clean sheet of the season in the Premier League against Manchester United on Sunday. The Italy international produced six saves, while also completing 24 of the 26 passes he attempted.”

As for Spence they wrote: “Djed Spence’s impressive turnaround under Ange Postecoglou this season continued on Sunday, when the 24-year-old was named Player of the Match by Sky Sports for his efforts in the 1-0 win over Manchester United.

“Spence managed a key pass, three successful dribbles, two tackles and four ball recoveries, to land a WhoScored rating of 7.85.”

What Ange Postecoglou said about Guglielmo Vicario’s return

Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou was pleased with Vicario’s return against Manchester United and he said: “Yes, it is massive. Both of them, particularly Vic, it is not just that Vic is an outstanding goalkeeper but in training, he is such a presence among the boys.

“He gets everyone going and it has been tough without him because we’ve used three other goalkeepers. They’ve all contributed but none of them have let us down.

“It’s just that Vic is experienced and has a strong personality. Madders is the same. He has enormous self-belief and that filters through the team. The energy and experience they bring to training will certainly make a difference for us.”

Vicario and Spence will be hoping to keep another clean sheet this weekend when Spurs take on Ipswich Town on Saturday.
