Djed Spence’s Man of the Match display against Man United

While the protests, the return of injured players and James Maddison’s goal has taken a few of the headlines, Djed Spence’s performance against Manchester United has not gone under the radar.

The Tottenham Hotspur full-back was impressive in his display against the Red Devils last weekend and he was named player of the match.

His performance against United did not just catch the eye of Tottenham Hotspur fans, it also caught the eye of former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer names Djed Spence in Premier League Team of the Week

In Shearer’s column of the team of the week for the Premier League, he wrote: “Djed Spence (Spurs) ‘Showcased his defensive prowess again and was a threat going forward.'”

The former Premier League striker’s team was labelled an “all-out-attack” team of the week, that had just two defenders in it – Webster and Spence.

The defenders were joined by other top performers this week, like Marmoush, Minteh, Mitoma and Alcaraz. See the full team below:

Following his impressive performance—where he completed the most dribbles in the match (3), created one chance, recorded a 91% pass accuracy, had two touches in the opposition box, played nine passes into the final third, was not dribbled past, and won seven duels—Djed Spence sent a message to Spurs fans after the game in a post on Instagram, captioned: “Still hungry.”

His time at Spurs has not been without its challenges. However, he is now reaping the reward of his hard work. Should he continue with his impressive displays, Udogie would find it hard to get back into the team.
