Tottenham could return to sign player who rejected them in January

0

Fresh reports from Italy state that Tottenham Hotspur could return to try and sign a player who rejected them in the January transfer window.

A winter of rejections for Tottenham Hotspur

During the winter transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur were actively searching for additional defensive reinforcements, as their backline had been severely affected by a series of injuries.

The club pursued several targets, including Axel Disasi, Marc Guehi, and Fikayo Tomori; however, those attempts ultimately failed either due to the players rejecting the move or their respective clubs refusing to sell.

Despite these setbacks, Tottenham secured the signing of Kevin Danso from RC Lens, and although he joined the squad less than two weeks ago, he has already established himself as an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s team.

Tottenham Hotspur could make a return move for Fikayo Tomori

Indeed, Tomori turned down the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur this winter, opting instead to remain at AC Milan. Now, fresh reports from MilanLive suggest that the English centre-back could still be on his way to North London.

According to the publication, AC Milan have made a firm decision regarding Tomori’s long-term future. The Rossoneri reportedly view the defender as a sellable asset, which explains why they were keen to move him on just two weeks ago.

The report further claims that Milan’s stance remains unchanged, with the club expecting Tottenham to renew their interest in the summer. The Italian club would welcome such a move, hoping that Tomori agrees to join Spurs this time around.

Could Tottenham Hotspur make a move for Tomori this summer?

Given Tottenham Hotspur’s initial interest in the 27-year-old centre-back and their £70 million bid for Marc Guehi on deadline day, it seems reasonable to believe they could revisit their pursuit of Tomori in the summer.

According to the report, negotiating a deal with AC Milan is unlikely to be a stumbling block. Finances will also not pose a problem, as Spurs have demonstrated they are willing to invest heavily in the right player.

The real challenge will be convincing Tomori to make the move to North London, especially given the likelihood of other suitors vying for his signature.

However, considering Postecoglou’s impressive track record of persuading players to join his project, it may take nothing more than a well-timed phone call to change Tomori’s mind.
