Ange Postecoglou’s turbulent second season at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur’s second season under manager Ange Postecoglou has been challenging, with the team currently sitting in 14th place in the Premier League.

Their struggles are not limited to the league, as they have also been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.

Injuries have significantly contributed to the team’s decline, forcing Postecoglou to rely on a limited pool of first-team players. The relentless schedule, with games every three to four days, has only compounded the difficulties for the squad this season.

Roy Keane offers support for under-pressure Ange Postecoglou

With Tottenham’s results faltering, manager Ange Postecoglou is facing intense scrutiny, with many calling for his dismissal.

The pressure is further heightened by his early-season declaration that he typically wins trophies in his second season. That statement has drawn significant backlash following Tottenham’s exits from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

However, former Manchester United player Roy Keane has defended the manager, insisting he still has a chance to deliver. Keane even admitted he loves the cocky second-season trophy claim.

He said on ITV: “He did say at the start of the season that he always wins a trophy in his second campaign, he probably regrets saying that now.

“I don’t mind that. Listen, sometimes that can be tongue-in-cheek for a manager, but he’s serious and he still has a chance to back it up.

“They’re still in with a chance. I don’t mind it, a manager coming up and being cocky. He still has a chance with Europe and the competition they’re in, they will be able to compete in that competition.”

It is Europa League or bust for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou?

Postecoglou still has a chance to deliver on his second-season trophy promise, with Tottenham in contention for the Europa League.

However, winning the competition will be no easy task. Among the teams already through to the round of 16, Spurs are the lowest-ranked side in their respective domestic leagues.

The return of key injured players this month improves their chances. But the pressure is mounting, and Tottenham cannot afford any mistakes if they are to end the season with silverware.
