Mauricio Pochettino gives early rave review of Tottenham midfield target
Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for a 22-year-old midfielder who is currently being managed by Mauricio Pochettino, and the former Spurs manager has now made an interesting revelation about the player’s development and his best position.
Tottenham eyeing move for AC Milan starlet Yunus Musah
It will not come as a surprise if Spurs prioritise strengthening in the middle of the park in the summer, given that their experienced midfielders have underperformed this season.
One man Tottenham could turn to is Yunus Musah, who is turning a few heads with his performances for Milan and the United States national team.
The 22-year-old came through the Arsenal academy and made a name for himself at Valencia before joining the Rossoneri in 2023, and it has emerged over recent days that Spurs are monitoring Musah closely ahead of the summer transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino’s praise for Yunus Musah
Musah has almost mainly been used as an all-action midfielder at Milan, but interestingly, Pochettino has used him as the right-winger for the United States National side.
In fact, the Milan man scored the first goal of the Argentine’s rein, and the former Tottenham manager has claimed that the youngster is now playing with a lot more confidence in his new role.
Pochettino previously told Goal.com about Musah: “When he arrived, we were talking to him and trying to raise his confidence, maybe starting in a different position, but it was just one he’s played in the past.
“I think that was a good decision. It’s always worth trying to build his confidence to make a player feel that he can perform on the pitch.
“By the way, I knew him when was young and played in the academy of Arsenal and then moved to Valencia and played in the position (on the wing) that today we used. I think it’s not new for him.”
Tottenham could also sign another American midfielder
Musah is not the only American that Spurs are reportedly eyeing with his international teammate, Johnny Cardoso, also in the North London club’s sights.
Tottenham have the option to sign Cardoso for €25m (£21m) at the end of the season, thanks to an option they acquired while striking a deal with the La Liga club for the transfer of Giovani Lo Celso last summer.
The 23-year-old continues to impress in Spanish football and reports indicate that Ange Postecoglou’s men do intend on activating the option to buy.
