How Tottenham could play Man United in the Europa League final
Ahead of the Europa League draw in a week, Tottenham Hotspur know at what stage they will play Manchester United in the competition if both sides progress to the later stages.
Tottenham wait to find out Europa League Round of 16 opponents
Spurs resume Europa League action at the round of 16 stage in March, with the Lilywhites being one of eight sides to seal qualification to that stage.
At the moment, Tottenham are slated to play either the winner of the clash between Galatasaray and Alkmaar, or the one between Midtjylland and Real Sociedad.
After the second leg next Thursday, the choice will be narrowed down to two. On Friday, February 21, the draw will be made for the round of 16 round when Spurs will get confirmation on who their opponents will be and whether they will be playing the first leg at home.
When could Tottenham play Man United in the Europa League?
The draw on February 21 will not just help Spurs learn their next opponents, but also their full path to the final as they find out which side of the draw they are on.
As shown in the official UEFA Europa League bracket, Tottenham have been paired with Man Utd for the next stage as a result of the two sides finishing in third and fourth places in the group stages.
That means that the two clubs are certain to be on opposite sides of the draw and cannot meet until the final of the competition in Bilbao on May 21.
This is good news for both Spurs and Man United
Neither Spurs nor the Red Devils have much to play for in the Premier League, which is why both Ruben Amorim and Ange Postecoglou might be putting all their eggs in the Europa League basket.
As a result, one has to consider these two sides as being among the favourites to lift the trophy, which is why it is good news for both of them to learn that they will not be playing each other until the final.
Should both sides make the final at San Mames, it would be a monumental occasion, but neither club would be counting their eggs before they hatch.
