Ruben Amorim praises Postecoglou but says Spurs are smaller than Man United
Rubem Amorim believes he is operating in a much more high-pressure environment than Ange Postecoglou ahead of Man United’s showdown with Spurs on Sunday
Battle of two ailing teams and under-fire managers
While a clash between Spurs and Manchester United has historically been an A-list contest between two of the top sides in the Premier League, both clubs come into Sunday’s game in a completely alien position.
Spurs and the Red Devils find themselves in the bottom half of the table, with both clubs desperate to get back to winning ways and pull themselves up into a respectable position.
What adds even more jeopardy to the occasion is the fact that it is a clash between two under-fire managers, whose sides have looked devoid of ideas and fluency over recent months.
Rubem Amorim says he is under more pressure than Ange Postescoglou
Postecoglou would feel that he is in more desperate need of a result than the Man Utd boss, given that he has now been in his job for 18 months while Amorin only arrived earlier this season.
However, the Portuguese coach believes that due to the virtue of being in a bigger club, the pressure on him is a lot higher than it is on the Australian.
Amorim said ahead of the big clash (via Fabrizio Romano): “I am a huge fan of Ange Postecoglou. He is a good guy, a very good coach. I understand the connection between me and Ange. With respect, I am at a bigger club with bigger pressure.”
Postecoglou needs the win more than Amorim
While it might be the case that Man Utd are a bigger club and have more eyeballs on them, there is no doubt that Postecoglou is the man who needs a result more right now.
A loss on Sunday against a struggling Man Utd side, especially after having had a week to prepare and a few of his injured players back, will serve as a huge blow to the Australian.
In fact, there is a possibility that Sunday’s game will be Postecoglou’s last in charge of Spurs if his side lose at home against United.
