Tottenham Hotspur’s missing personnel this season

So far this season, Tottenham Hotspur has suffered 198 cases of missing personnel, an injury crisis that has affected 19 first-team players.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are among the Spurs players who have missed the most games due to injuries, with the duo missing 26 and 25 games respectively.

While some of the eleven players who missed Sunday’s clash against Aston Villa have returned to training this week, Romero and van de Ven remain sidelined.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero do not need surgery at Tottenham

Although the Dutch centre-back returned in the clash against Elfsborg, he has since been sidelined again – both centre-backs are expected to return in two weeks’ time.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash, the Tottenham boss revealed an update on their recovery, discussing how the treatment process has been progressing.

He told football.london: “Never close to either of them needing surgery. Never been discussed. Surgery has never ever entered discussion with either player.”

On Van de Ven, he added: “We’ve had a few people externally looking at him and give him some more guidance and information, added to our stuff, which he can do differently around, not so much the injury, but to help his body adapt to the extreme athlete he is and can be.

“You always want to protect your assets and he is a major club asset and to protect his long-term career for the sake of a couple of weeks is worth it.”

Who will start at centre-back against Manchester United?

With the defensive pair set to miss another game, Spurs now have Danso, Davies and Gray to pick from this weekend.

Given Danso’s impressive displays since joining recently, he is currently the only recognised centre-back at the club.

His defensive partner will be crucial, and with Gray featuring last week Sunday against Aston Villa, Postecoglou will likely turn to Davies for the clash against Manchester United.
