Tottenham vs Man United score prediction – Chris Sutton makes a strange call
Chris Sutton has made his score prediction for Tottenham Hotspur’s next Premier League match against Man United, but he is not feeling too confident in his verdict.
Tottenham have faced player limitations this season
Tottenham have experienced an unprecedented season of injuries. Not only has this denied Ange Postecoglou the opportunity to select his strongest starting eleven, but it has put a strain on the players who have little time to rest between matches.
Postecoglou has attempted to mitigate this issue by granting his players two days off at the beginning of this week. This has meant Spurs have only been preparing for their clash with Manchester United since Wednesday, a price which they have been willing to pay in order to give their players the rest they need.
There is some positive news on the injury front, however, as Destiny Udogie could be back in action this weekend. Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison could also be available for selection.
Chris Sutton’s Tottenham vs Man United score prediction
Chris Sutton has made a prediction for Tottenham’s next fixture, but he is unsure he is making the right call, as both teams have been unpredictable of late.
While Spurs have received some positive injury news, Sutton has questioned whether their returning players will be fit enough to face Manchester United. He has also raised the tiredness of Postecoglou’s available players as a concern.
Making his predictions on BBC Sport, he said: “Trying to call this is a bit like a game I used to play with my kids, poker dice, where you roll five dice and it is completely random what you end up with.
“This is the first time I have so little idea of what to expect from both sides that I actually think I need to make two predictions, rather than one. I can guarantee you this, though. Whatever result I go for, it will end up being the opposite of what actually happens.
“Tottenham demolished Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford in September but that does not really have any bearing here. Spurs are getting players back from injury and Timo Werner, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario are among those training again, but how fit are they going to be for this game?
“Ange Postecoglou says his players are out on their feet and we could see that in their FA Cup defeat at Aston Villa, so a lot depends on how much they have left in the tank.”
Tottenham may be having problems, but Sutton thinks United have issues of their own. He added: “As for Manchester United, well I’ve been reading reports this week that some of their players are unhappy with Ruben Amorim’s style of play.
“There is lots going on off the pitch too, with stories that more redundancies are planned at the club, following controversy over a rise in ticket prices.”
Sutton has claimed Amorim should be given time and a couple of transfer windows, although he has conceded that the Portuguese boss has failed to make any progress so far. However, he does believe the Red Devils could pick up the three points this weekend.
He said: “I still have a sneaky feeling they might edge this game but I cannot really tell you what I am basing that on. This is a big game for Ange too, now his side are out of both domestic cups, but I am going with United, just.”
Sutton’s prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Manchester United (although he also thinks Spurs could win 4-0).
Tottenham need a response to their cup defeats
Tottenham’s most recent Premier League fixture, a win over Brentford, seems like a long time ago now. Since then, Spurs have been hammered 4-0 by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final, while they were defeated by Aston Villa in the FA Cup just three days later.
With no hope of silverware remaining other than the Europa League, it is important Spurs win as many matches as possible in the league to restore the faith of supporters.
Manchester United are not a strong team this season, so Sunday is an opportunity for Tottenham to win two consecutive league matches for the first time since September.
