Tottenham eyeing move for English starlet

Tottenham strengthened their attack with the addition of Mathys Tel in January, with the Frenchman getting off the mark in front of goal for the Lilywhites in their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Sunday.

However, Spurs are expected to be in the market for more reinforcements upfront, particularly with the news that they are now ready to consider offers to sell captain Heung-min Son in the summer.

It has now emerged that the North London club are eyeing a move for a Bundesliga starlet who is having an extremely impressive season.

Tottenham ready to battle London rivals for Jamie Gittens

The player in question is Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, who has 11 goals and five assists to his name so far this season, with four of those strikes coming in the Champions League.

A report in GiveMeSport claims that the Spurs recruitment chiefs are aware that the 20-year-old is also wanted by Arsenal and Chelsea but they are not shying away from being involved in a bidding war with their London rivals.

It is claimed that Dortmund slapped a £83m price tag on Gittens in January, which put off interested clubs.

The publication adds that the German club will hold out for a ‘lucrative fee’ for the England Under-21 international in the summer, with Spurs having to break their transfer record to sign the player.

Tottenham optimistic about getting Jamie Gittens

GiveMeSport go on to state that Tottenham have been ‘given fresh optimism’ in their pursuit of the Dortmund man as the Bundesliga club are expected to cash in on the player if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

With Niko Kovac currently sitting 11th in the table, that seems a distinct possibility at the moment.

The outlet reveals that Bayern Munich also have their eye on Gittens ahead of the summer and are threatening to enter the race, thus further complicating Tottenham’s transfer pursuit.
