Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of two leading contenders to secure the services of a Premier League striker, who is expected to be on the move at the end of the season.

Spurs are fans of prolific Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha is having an outstanding season at the Molineux Stadium, having found the back of the net 12 times so far, which is even more impressive when one considers the fact that Wolves are sitting just two points off the drop zone.

Throughout January, various outlets reported that Spurs were one of several clubs monitoring the Brazilian’s situation at Wolves, but the forward not only ended up staying at the Midlands club but also ended up signing a new deal.

A few days ago, it emerged that the 25-year-old’s contract does have a release clause of £62.5m, which becomes active in the summer.

Spurs eyeing big-money move for Matheus Cunha

Unsurprisingly, a report from AS now says that Tottenham are plotting a move for the Wolves man, with the North London club said to be ‘following his evolution very closely’.

The report names Man Utd as the other club eyeing a summer deal for Cunha, whose release clause of £62.5m is described as a ‘bargain’ for a forward who is referred to as one of the ‘most in-form’ players in the Premier League.

Interestingly, the outlet asserts that if Wolves were to be relegated to the Championship, Spurs and Man Utd may even look to negotiate down the fee for the striker.

Wolves exit is inevitable for Cunha

AS assert that Wolves have fought hard to retain their star man, even turning down approaches from Arsenal and Nottingham Forest for the player during the January window.

However, the report explains that a summer exit for Cunha ‘is now almost inevitable’ after the latest development regarding his contract.

This is because several clubs across the Premier League are expected to be on the lookout for a number nine at the end of this season.
