Spurs injury woes are finally set to subside

Over the last three months, Ange Postecoglou has been left frustrated by the fact that there have been new injuries in his squad just as others returned to action.

The Tottenham boss even famously remarked last month that every time he sees some light at the end of the tunnel, it has proven to be an oncoming train.

However, after several months of having to deal with double-digit absentees, it looks like the Tottenham boss is finally about to welcome a host of players back into the fray.

According to a report in The Times, several members of Tottenham’s first choice eleven are expected to return to full training over the next few days.

The report says that Postecoglou hopes to have Destiny Udogie, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario available for Spurs’ Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday.

Postecoglou’s attacking stocks are also expected to be boosted as Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert are also on the cusp of rejoining training.

Finally, it is revealed that Dominic Solanke and Timo Werner are “not too far behind” but the outlet does not say whether the Englishman and German are in contention to face the Red Devils. The implication seems to be that they will miss out this week.

Where are Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero?

It is a little concerning that Tottenham’s first-choice centre-backs, Romero and Van de Ven, are not named in this report among the players who are close to returning to action.

The decision to rush both of them back against Chelsea at the start of December now looks like a very poor decision.

The fitness record of the Argentine and the Dutchman over the last 18 months suggests that their bodies are struggling to cope with the intensity and running expected of centre-backs in Postecoglou’s system.
