Ange Postecoglou’s passionate defence of his players

The Tottenham players have come in for scathing criticism after their performance in the FA Cup fourth-round clash at Villa Park, but Postecoglou launched a passionate defence of his squad after the 2-1 loss.

He insisted that they were simply too fatigued to play on the front foot and press their opposition high up the pitch, given that they had only played Liverpool three days prior.

It has now emerged that the Tottenham head coach has made a decision to help his squad regain some freshness before they return to Premier League action.

Ange Postecoglou to give two days off to his Spurs players

The Telegraph has now revealed that Postecoglou has decided to give his players both Monday and Tuesday off as he attempts to hit the reset button on the season.

The majority of the squad are expected to return to Hotspur Way on Wednesday to restart their preparations for the upcoming clash against Man Utd.

The report states that Postecoglou hopes to have several of his injured players back this week, with Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert close to returning to training.

The Spurs boss is hoping that the two days off and the return of fresh faces to training will give the side an opportunity to reset on the back of their struggles over the last few months.

The silver lining from Tottenham’s cup exits

The last thing that Postecoglou needed was to see his side eliminated from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup within a matter of days, especially given how dire a position they are in the Premier League.

However, the one silver lining from their cup exits is that the schedule now looks a lot less demanding for his side, who have played every three days almost consistently over the last few months.

Postecoglou will be hoping that having extra time to recover between matches and being boosted by the return of key men would help Spurs have a respectable end to their campaign.
