Chelsea confident big-money player will choose them over Tottenham

Chelsea are reportedly confident that one player who Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing will come to Stamford Bridge instead at the end of the season.

Tottenham failed with a huge offer for Marc Guehi

Tottenham had a strong finish to the January window, securing both Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel in late deals, with the pair joining Antonin Kinsky as the three new faces who arrived through the door in the month.

However, Spurs could have had an even more sensational finish to the window as it emerged that they submitted an offer of £70m for Marc Guehi, which was sent back by Crystal Palace, who did not want to lose a key man so late in the window.

Reports have already claimed that Tottenham intend to go back in for Guehi in the summer, with the defender set to enter the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park this June.

GiveMeSport have now claimed that it was not just Tottenham who made a move for the England international in January, but also London rivals, Chelsea, who ‘put out feelers’ for the centre-back last month.

The Blues allegedly even spoke to Guehi‘s representatives and are now expected to launch an assault for him in the summer with Enzo Maresca keen on adding to his defensive stocks.

The 24-year-old came through Chelsea’s academy and the West London club are said to be confident that the player will pick them over Spurs in the summer.

Chelsea might have an advantage over Tottenham

There is no guarantee that Chelsea will qualify for the Champions League, and if Spurs can win a trophy and push themselves up the table, there might not be a lot to choose between the two sides for prospective targets in the summer.

However, Guehi is a Chelsea boy, having come through the ranks of their academy at Cobham and one would thus expect that he would be more inclined to return to his boyhood club.

Tottenham fans would be hoping that Ange Postecoglou could speak to the centre-back and work his magic again as he usually does with the club’s transfer targets.
