Unconfident Tottenham player needs to be moved on – Ramon Vega argues
Following Tottenham Hotspur’s recent Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool, one former Spurs player has taken to social media and called for a first-team player to leave the club.
Tottenham Hotspur’s injury struggles
Despite Tottenham Hotspur’s slender 1-0 advantage in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, the second leg was never going to be straightforward as the Lilywhites were visiting the home of the League leaders.
To compound their woes, Ange Postecoglou, who would have been hoping for the return of his first-choice centre-back pairing, was dealt a blow as both Romero and van de Ven were not fit enough to start.
The result was a fair reflection of the current predicament of both teams. While the Australian manager had a bench of young academy graduates, Liverpool’s boss had his established stars to call on.
4-0 was the final scoreline, as Liverpool played Tottenham Hotspur off the park in a game that looked like it was men against boys.
Ramon Vega calls for Richarlison to leave Tottenham
In typical Spurs fashion, the N17 club did not miss the opportunity to pick up more injuries – this time, Richarlison was forced off just before half-time in what appears to be a hamstring problem.
So far this season, the Brazilian forward has managed just six starts and has missed a staggering 26 matches because of injuries.
Following the defeat, former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega did not hold back in his assessment of the 27-year-old’s time in North London. He said in a tweet: “Unfortunately Richarlison needs a new challenge elsewhere; he has lost confidence at Spurs.”
The forward who has played 80 games in his three years at Spurs, has managed to score 18 goals and has picked up nine assists. However, his injury record remains a concern for the Tottenham Hotspur faithful.
Could this be the end of Richarlison’s time at Tottenham?
Taking a closer look at his numbers for the Lilywhites, there is a case for the forward to be shipped off as he is not contributing enough in terms of minutes played in a season.
In his three years at Spurs, the highest amount of minutes he has played in a season is 1492. To put that into context, this season, Pedro Porro has played 1987 minutes in the League alone.
For a £60m signing, Richarlison simply is not doing enough for the club, his numbers and injury record suggest that he is better as a backup striker.
You will want to believe that if the club can get a decent offer for the forward this summer, then he will be shipped off. Perhaps a move to the Saudi League might be on the cards.
