Tottenham could have three injured players back for Man United – Postecoglou
With well over eight first-team regulars out because of injuries, manager Ange Posetcoglou has provided some positive news on the return of some injured stars.
An injury-laden season for Tottenham Hotspur
The 24/25 season for Tottenham Hotspur has been one plagued by injuries and inconsistencies. While Spurs have been inconsistent on the pitch, they have been consistent on the injury front.
From their first-choice goalkeeper to their main centre-forward, injuries have ravaged every part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
This season alone, Spurs have suffered 198 cases of missing personnel because of injuries. In fact, only five Tottenham players have stayed injury-free so far this campaign. These numbers are worrying.
Ange Postecoglou provides positive injury update
Ahead of the clash against Aston Villa, manager Ange Postecoglou has provided a somewhat positive update on the injury front.
While he states that his side will not be handed any reprieve this weekend, he remains optimistic that a few of his players could return before the clash against Manchester United in the Premier League next weekend.
He told football.london: “I didn’t think this week, it was the start of next week where we’re still hopeful we’ll get at least two, maybe three back for the Man United game.
“We’ve got two full weeks of training, which I think over these two weeks we’ll get the majority of the players back with a bit of luck, provided we don’t lose anyone else like we lost Richy last night.
“I knew this week was going to be a challenging week in terms of personnel, because we just weren’t going to get anyone back, so there’s no sort of disappointment that anyone missed out.”
Which players could return against Manchester United
Looking at Tottenham Hotspur’s injury list and the potential return date for a few of their stars, the three players nearing a return are likely: James Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner.
James Maddison who picked a knock against Hoffenheim, was expected to spend two to three weeks on the sideline and return around the 16th of February.
Timo Werner picked up a hamstring problem in the game against Tamworth and his return was scheduled for early-to-mid February.
Then finally, Brennan Johnson picked up a knock against Arsenal and is expected to return at the same time as Timo Werner. Their return to full fitness is very much anticipated as Postecoglou’s side needs extra bodies.
Of course, Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven are also back in training so Spurs will be hoping to get them back into the XI over the coming weeks.
