Jamie Carragher hurls Accrington Stanley insult at Spurs after 4-0 defeat
Jamie Carragher certainly did not hold back in his criticism of Spurs after their no-show at Anfield, with the pundit making a claim about the Lilywhites’ which should embarrass Ange Postecoglou and Co.
Spurs were taught a harsh lesson by Liverpool
While it was always going to be difficult to progress to the final at Liverpool’s expense despite taking a slender lead to Anfield, Tottenham fans would have at least expected to see their side and throw a punch or two.
Instead, what we got was an extremely tame display from the Lilywhites, which, at times, was not too dissimilar in style to a Jose Mourinho away performance, with Postecoglou‘s men failing to show any attacking ambition.
Liverpool put four past Tottenham without breaking a sweat while the away side failed to register a single shot on target through the 90 minutes.
Jamie Carragher says League Two side were better than Spurs
Carragher has now delivered a brutal verdict of Tottenham’s sorry display at Merseyside. He insisted that League Two side Accrington Stanley caused more problems for Liverpool when they lost 4-0 to the Reds in their FA Cup third-round clash last month.
The pundit told Sky Sports (06/02/25): “I’m not just saying this to try and make a headline but actually I think of a cup tie Liverpool played at home a few weeks ago in the FA Cup.
“I think Accrington Stanley, now Liverpool didn’t play their best team, don’t get me wrong…”But they gave more than Tottenham and caused Liverpool more of a problem in that game, that’s not right.”
Ange Postecoglou appeared completely lost
While one does sympathise with the injury situation that Postecoglou is dealing with, tactically, he has been embarrassed by Arne Slot a couple of times now.
The 59-year-old went for a safety-first defensive approach at Anfield, which in itself was telling, given all that we have heard from the Australian about never abandoning his philosophy over the last 18 months.
Postecoglou had no answers and looked lost on the touchline as Liverpool were running rings around his side, and it is going to be difficult for the Spurs boss to bounce back from this latest setback.
