Spurs sign a flurry of youngsters on deadline day

While a lot of the media attention has understandably been on Tottenham’s late agreement to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, the Lilywhites have also quite managed to bolster their academy ranks with a number of important signings.

Spurs have confirmed that they have agreed a deal for 18-year-old centre-back Luca Furnell-Gill from Liverpool as well as teenage attacking midfielder Dan Batty from Manchester City.

The North London club have now officially announced that they have also secured a young player from the Chelsea academy before the window slammed shut.

Tottenham sign Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny from Chelsea

Tottenham announced on their official website that they have struck an agreement for Chelsea midfielder Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny, with the youngster set to link up with the academy at Hotspur Way.

The 18-year-old, who operates as a number six or in a box-to-box role, has made nine appearances in Premier League 2 for the Blues this season, scoring three goals.

Russell-Denny, who has represented England at Under-17s, Under-18s and Under-19s levels, has been in Chelsea’s academy since the age of eight.

The Reading-born youngster has now decided to move across London to join their fierce rivals, penning a contract with Spurs that runs until 2028.

Tottenham continue to bolster their academy

We have seen consistently over the last few windows that Tottenham have prioritised adding the best teenagers from across the UK into their academy set-up.

The academy recruitment is a crucial aspect to get right if the club are going to ensure that more young players graduate to the first team.

With Postecoglou showing that he is not shy of using academy youngsters, there is now a clear pathway to the senior side at Spurs, which is why the club will be an attractive destination for many talented teenagers.
