Contradictory reports emerge on the structure of Mathys Tel’s late move to the Spurs
Alasdair Gold and Fabrizio Romano are making contradictory claims about the structure of Mathys Tel’s proposed move to Tottenham, which sensationally appears set to go through on deadline day after plenty of twists and turns.
Huge Mathys Tel U-turn on transfer deadline day
It seemed like Tottenham had admitted defeat in their pursuit of Tel a few days ago after it emerged that the player had turned down the chance to move to N17.
However, there has been major drama over the last few hours as it has emerged that the winger has done a U-turn and agreed to seal a dramatic late switch from the Allianz Arena to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs fans have been on cloud nine since the dramatic development, but the nature of the agreement struck between Spurs and Bayern still remains unclear.
Alasdair Gold and Fabrizio Romano reveal what they know about the deal
Fabrizio Romano has taken to social media to give his ‘here we go’ seal of approval to the transfer, confirming that Tel is on his way to N17.
The Italian transfer expert explained that the deal would only be a straight loan move, with Spurs not having an option to buy the 19-year-old permanently in the summer.
This information has been contradicted by Alasdair Gold, who took to social media to claim that the final structure of the deal is yet to be finalised between the parties.
The Football.London journalist revealed that while a straight loan is a possibility, Spurs would prefer a permanent agreement for the Frenchman.
A loan deal looks more likely for Tel
The fact that Tel rejected Tottenham’s advances a few days ago before changing his mind on deadline day suggests that the structure of the proposal has changed.
The winger may have been hesitant to agree to join Ange Postecoglou’s men on a permanent basis and might have been more receptive once Spurs changed it into a loan offer.
However, one would hope that Tottenham are somehow able to attach an option to buy to the loan deal as they would otherwise simply be developing the teenager for Bayern’s benefit.
