Tottenham make late transfer deadline day approach for £46.3m Chelsea player

0

Tottenham Hotspur have now made a move for a versatile Premier League forward, but they are not favourites to secure the player at the moment, with plenty of teams from across the continent battling to win the race for him before this evening’s transfer deadline.

Will Tottenham manage to sign a forward today?

Tottenham have just hours left in the transfer window to bolster their attack and give Ange Postecoglou the firepower he needs to navigate through the rest of the season.

The Lilywhites are seemingly scrambling to get a deal through the door, and they have now reportedly registered their interest in a Chelsea man.

The player in question is Joao Felix, who has struggled for game time under Enzo Maresca in the Premier League, with all but one of his seven goals this season coming in the cup competitions.

Tottenham enter race for Joao Felix

This update comes from The Telegraph, who say that Spurs and Aston Villa have now both expressed an interest in signing Felix before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The report suggests that an exit from Stamford Bridge is very much on the cards for the Portuguese forward today.

Felix rejoined Chelsea in a £46.3million transfer having previously spent six months on loan there during the second half of the 2022/23 season (Sky Sports).

However, as things stand, it is AC Milan who are leading the race to sign the 25-year-old, with the Rossoneri trying to hammer out a loan agreement with the Blues.

Chelsea have also reportedly received offers from three other unnamed Champions sides for Felix.

The publication adds that Spurs may find it difficult to agree a deal for the Atletico Madrid man as the Blues are reluctant to send him to a Premier League rival.

Daniel Levy’s transfer strategy becomes clear

It is now starting to make sense why Tottenham waited until so late in the transfer window to make moves.

The fact that Spurs are making advances towards Villa and Chelsea players in the final hours pf the window suggests that their plan is to take advantage of the desperation of clubs, who need to sell players to maintain a healthy PSR situation.

It is a risky strategy as while it might potentially open up some great deals, Tottenham are also running the risk of being left with egg on their faces if they end the day empty handed.
