Tottenham scrambling to make late additions before deadline

Even though Tottenham managed to bolster their stocks at centre-back with the signing of Kevin Danso from Lens over the weekend, the North London club are reportedly not done just yet trying to bolster their options in the heart of defence.

It was initially reported that the Lilywhites were keen on securing Axel Disasi from Chelsea, but over recent hours, we have heard Tottenham have withdrawn from the race to sign the defender.

It has now emerged that the North London club have made an audacious late move to sign an England international defender.

Tottenham made huge £70m offer for Marc Guehi

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tottenham have made a late bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, but have seen their offer knocked back by the Eagles.

This is backed up by The Guardian’s Ed Aarons, who says that Spurs launched an audacious bid of around £70m to secure Guehi from Palace.

That would have made the 24-year-old the club’s record signing if it had been accepted, beating the £65m Tottenham paid to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in the summer.

According to Aarons, Oliver Glasner’s men turned down the offer as they felt it was simply too late in the transfer window to let such a key player leave without finding a replacement.

Can we expect some big moves from Spurs in the next hours?

This mega offer from Tottenham may be evidence that the club is prepared to spend big on deadline day and may be about to make some big moves in the final hours of the window.

However, cynics will suggest that this is just Daniel Levy‘s way of making an offer that is certain to be turned down as a means of demonstrating that he did try to make some moves on the deadline day.

With time running out in the window, the Tottenham chairman will be aware that the pressure on him is likely to get turned up if the club do not make some big moves before this evening’s deadline.
