Tottenham are tempted to re-sign former player on a free transfer
Tottenham Hotspur could be set to bring a familiar face back to north London, as the club have reportedly entered the race to sign Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
A potential Tottenham return for Kyle Walker-Peters
Kyle Walker-Peters could be on his way back to Tottenham Hotspur after spending four years at Southampton.
The 27-year-old defender, who initially departed Tottenham in 2020 in search of regular football, has since established himself as one of Southampton’s most consistent performers, playing a key role in the club’s defensive setup.
However, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the England international appears set for a move away from St Mary’s Stadium, and a return to north London is now a serious possibility.
Tottenham enter the race for their former full-back
According to TBR Football, Tottenham Hotspur are now prepared to offer Kyle Walker-Peters a route back to north London, with Ange Postecoglou’s side maintaining a long-standing interest in their former defender.
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has reported that Walker-Peters recently rejected a move to Galatasaray, despite the Turkish club being ready to meet Southampton’s £8 million asking price.
Bailey further reports that Tottenham’s interest in Walker-Peters is not new, as the club have been monitoring his situation for some time.
It is believed that the player himself would welcome a return to N17, having previously made 24 senior appearances for Spurs before departing in 2020.
Other clubs interested in Walker-Peters
While Tottenham appear to be in a strong position to re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters, they are not the only Premier League club monitoring the situation. Leicester City and Crystal Palace are reported to have also shown interest in the defender.
Leicester City are said to have been keen to secure Walker-Peters earlier in the window, but they were unwilling to meet Southampton’s asking price.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also weighing up an approach, though their chances could depend on whether they lose any defensive options before the end of the season.
With Walker-Peters expected to leave on a free transfer in the summer, Southampton are keen to secure a fee while they still can.
