Tottenham may have advantage in race to sign second new centre-back
Tottenham Hotspur are turning their attention to a Premier League centre-back following the signing of Kevin Danso, and they might have a big advantage over two other clubs in the race for the player.
Tottenham eyeing another centre-back before Monday’s transfer deadline
Spurs managed to quickly wrap up a deal for Kevin Danso, with the North London club swooping for the Austrian international just as he was about to complete a move to Wolves.
It turns out that Tottenham are trying to bring another central defender through the door in addition to the former Lens man, with the Lilywhites now turning their attention towards one Chelsea man.
The player in question is Axel Disasi, who was first mooted as a target for Tottenham a couple of days ago, and it turns out that Ange Postecoglou‘s men might have an advantage over other suitors in the race for the 26-year-old.
Why Tottenham might be the favourites to land Axel Disasi
Spurs insider, Paul O Keefe, has now taken to social media to state that the signing of Danso does not affect the club’s pursuit of the Chelsea man, who remains a target for the North Londoners.
He wrote: ‘Spurs are still considering Axel Disasi in addition to Kevin Danso. They have broad agreement with Chelsea on a loan – Aston Villa also in the frame for Axel.’
The Daily Mail back up that information, revealing that Aston Villa and Wolves are also eyeing a late deal for Disasi.
However, the outlet states that the former Monaco central defender wants to remain in London, thus potentially giving Spurs an advantage over the two Midland clubs.
A sign that Radu Dragusin could be out for a long time
Tottenham’s urgency in securing a couple of centre-backs before Monday’s deadline suggests that the club expect Dragusin to be out of action for a sustained period.
It has been reported that some at Spurs fear Dragusin could be out for the majority of the season.
Spurs would ideally want to sign Disasi on loan, but might have to do a permanent deal if they want to get the Frenchman, particularly with Villa and Wolves also circling.
