Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Brentford – 7.5/10 defender leads the way
The half-time whistle has sounded in West London for Brentford vs Tottenham, and it’s time for player ratings, as the Lilywhites hold all the cards at the halfway mark.
Ange Postecoglou needs a Tottenham turning point
In midweek, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou quipped, “Every time I think I see light at the end of the tunnel, it turns out to be an oncoming train.”
That statement came just days after Spurs picked up yet another injury in Thursday’s Europa League victory, as Radu Dragusin appeared to hurt his knee. Spurs’ medical officials fear who could miss the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League in February, with pressure mounting on the players, ownership, and manager. Today, the Lilywhites have made the short trip across the capital to face Brentford, intending to secure all three points and stabilise their domestic campaign.
Throughout the first half, we analysed each player’s individual performance, rating them on a scale of 1-10. Let’s take a look at our Brentford vs Tottenham first-half player ratings.
Tottenham first-half player ratings v Brentford
Antonin Kinsky: Kinsky, other than a shaky moment or two, dealt with crosses and shots when he needed to. He’s halfway to a first Premier League clean sheet. 6.
Pedro Porro: Porro was up and down that right flank in the first half, and he also wasn’t afraid to go long with his passes, as he peppered the Brentford defence with lofted passes and whipped crosses time and time again. None of them came to anything though. 5.5.
Archie Gray: Gray was the recipient of booing from the home crowd, but despite the odd shaky moment when under pressure, the eighteen-year-old makeshift centre-half dealt with Brentford’s barrages when he needed to. 6.
Ben Davies: Davies was also a bit shaky on the ball, like Gray, but he also dealt with crosses when they were fired at him. 6.
Djed Spence: Spence started with aggression and a desire to get forward and create chances, and he was probably Spurs’ brightest player in the opening forty-five. He drifted inside at will and was exciting to watch. 7.5.
Yves Bissouma: Biss wasn’t a standout player by any means but he did the bare minimum in the first half. He could’ve been quicker to the second ball at times, but that could’ve been said for much of the Spurs team so far this afternoon. 5.5.
Rodrigo Bentancur: Rodrigo was important in dictating the tempo in the first half, as his tidy football halted Brentford’s momentum, and that eventually led to Spurs taking the lead against the run of play. 6.
Dejan Kulusevski: Deki, playing in a more central position today, was lively throughout the first half but often lacked the right decision-making. He created some big chances but none of them could be converted. 6.5.
Mikey Moore: Mikey, starting on his unfavoured right flank today, has shown promising signs when the ball was at his feet so far this afternoon. He nearly provided Richy with a goal after a sweet cross on his weaker foot was cleared away, and he’s even had one or two chances of his own, albeit none of them clear-cut. 6.5.
Richarlison: Richy was often in the wrong place at the wrong time in the first half, as he was unable to make use of any of the crosses that were fired into the opposition box. He played his part in tracking back, at least, but he will be hoping to have more of an attacking presence in the second half. 5.
Heung-min Son: Son forced Spurs’ opener as a beautifully whipped corner found its way into Brentford’s net. He found himself on the ball a lot but many of his shots were blocked or came to nothing. Room for improvement in the second half. 6.5.
